Karen Talks Classics

Whether you're getting to that time in your life where you don't particularly have the time to keep up-to-date with the latest trends, or whether you want to retain more of your fashion items for longer. Classics are the way forward.

For me, classics are things that you are going to keep for at least five years. These are not those once in a while trends; instead, they are your timeless pieces. The cuts, colours and shapes of a garment, dictate whether or not it is a classic piece and will look just as good on you today as it would five years from now. So, what are some of my classic go-to looks?

Classics in terms of colours are your reds, whites, Breton stripes, blacks, greys, neutrals, including pinks, camels, creams and even checks and animal prints.

I view classics in categories: Your smart classics, such as roll-neck and v-neck jumpers, round-neck t-shirts, shirts, fitted blazers and classic-cut trousers and loafers.

Sweaters, skinny jeans, white trainers, and animal print are essentially modern-day classics. Another modern classic example is a puff-sleeve top with a classic Breton stripe.

I've always loved a skinny jean, but recently I have started an affair with the straight cut, which is still a classic but more on the classy classic side, and less of the cool, sexy vibe. Admittedly the straight jean might not be love at first sight, but the more you get to know it, the more you'll fall in love.

Another great benefit of having a healthy amount of classic pieces in your wardrobe is value for money. I recently bought this gorgeous trench coat from Topshop. Sadly, due to the current situation, I've not yet had a chance to wear it out, so there's been a lot of me prancing around the house in it and taking selfies. But the beauty of a classic is that they are timeless, so when the time does come to venture outside, my beautiful trench coat will still be as fabulous and as fashionable as ever.

Everyone loves a classic! X
